While juices are a high octane blast of vitamins and minerals, a smoothie provides the longer term power of protein for body building and stamina.
The cellular nature of some fruits, particularly bananas and berries, make them difficult to freshly juice. Since freshness is key to accessing the exhilarating power of these fruits, liquefying them whole in a blender is the answer. Pure fruit pulp is not easy to drink, but when blended half and half, with low fat live yoghurt, the result is indescribably delicious.
The benefits of a smoothie overlap those of juices, because several nutritional bonuses make them virtually a meal replacement.
Firstly, the bio-benefits of live culture yoghurt for the digestive tract are well documented. Secondly, the elements contained in milk products, such as Calcium, are vital for the absorption of some vitamins. Thirdly the protein in yoghurt, largely absent in juices, is a crucial part of any diet. And fourthly, the blending of whole fruit captures, not just the anthocyanins, free radical scavengers present in the skin of most berries, but their fibre as well.
With our usual care, PHILPOTTS have produced 30 Juice and Smoothie recipes which will tickle up your taste buds as well as your body. ALL are delicious but each have ingredients, and appropriate names, specifically chosen to bias towards particular nutritional benefits or effects.
We recommend including a juice or smoothie in your daily diet. Significant improvements in energy levels, hair texture and skin tone can be observed in two or three weeks so it is fair to assume that the less visible parts of your body will be enlivened too. Juices and smoothies form an excellent part of a calorie controlled diet; read about the properties of Guarana in the health supplement section.
